*Chapter 3* -Unfamiliar meeting- The weeks went by slowly, and soon winter vacation had begun. Finally freedom, Julie thought. But there was nothing to do. She didn’t particularily feel like calling Nikki. They hadn’t really talked for a while. And she didn’t feel like hanging out with her friends, because she knew they would just keep blabbering about makeup or asking each other stupid questions from a teen magazine. Once again fate made Julie arrive at the woody area she had visited a few weeks ago.

"Hi"

"Huh?" Julie replied, turning to see who had just greeted her.

"Hi , my name’s Zac."

"I'm Julie"

"So what brings you down here. I haven’t seen you here before" questioned Zac

"I don’t know. Guess it was fate or maybe destiny. Or maybe just luck" replied Julie

"I think it was all three" intervened Zac

"Why?"

"Because it was fate that you were destined to meet me, and meeting me is probably the luckiest thing that’s ever gonna happen to you." explained Zac.

"Well I agree with the first two, but I’m not sure about the last one." laughed Julie.

"So how are you?" asked Zac.

"Good. And you?"

"The same."

"Oh I hate these formal greetings, talk normal"

"But what else am I supposed to talk about? I don’t know you."

"Well get to know me"

"How?"

"In any way way you like"

"Oooh baby, do you really mean ANY way I like." joked Zac moving in closer.

"Haha. Okay since you don't know any proper way, I’ll start. How old are you?"

"Eleven. Wasn’t that a formal question?"

"Yes, but it wasn’t a formal greeting. I might as well answer your next question Zac. I’m 14, turning 15 on April 12th "

"That wasn’t my next question. But now I know you’re too old for me, but I can still get you a B’day present."

"What kind of lame comment is that?-- You can’t be my friend because I’m too old for you?"

" I mean you can’t be my girlfriend. You’re older than Taylor."

"Well I wasn’t planning on being your girlfriend in any case."

"I know-- I was just kidding. Can't you take a joke?"

"Anyway, who’s Taylor?" asked Julie

"He’s my brother. You may have seen him around here." Zac replied.

"I don’t come here a lot, so I probably haven’t. Do you have any other brothers/sisters?" questioned Julie.

"Yeah. Mackie, my little brother is around 1, then there’s Jessie and Avery who are 7 and 5. Taylor who’s 13, and finally Issac who is 16."

"I only have one brother. He's 16. Your oldest brother may know him from school or something." Julie said

"I doubt it. We’re all home schooled."

"I would die to be home schooled. I hate school so much. Well it’s not really school, it’s the people at school. Everyone has their own little clique, and everything’s a matter of popularity. Of course I don’t seem to fit in with any of the people at school. I used to think they were just a bunch of weirdoes, but I’m not so sure anymore, maybe it’s just me. "

"Hey, don’t worry about it- you’re cool." assured Zac

"Why, just 'cause I'm older?" interrogated Julie.

"Look- I didn't mean it that way before. I say a lot of things I regret later. And that was one of them. I didn't know what to say, and that was the first thing that came to mind. What more can you expect from a sixth grader?" apologized Zac.

"Zac- I was kidding. I know what you meant. And you're a lot more mature than most sixth graders I know- so chill."

Zac started laughing

"What?!", asked Julie, "Here I am trying to be nice to you, and consoling you and you're cracking up?"

"It's not that. It's just that "chill" doesn't seem like your kind of word." explained Zac

"You're right", admitted Julie, "I caught on to that from my brother- the all-american surfer dude wannabe"

Just then they heard a voice.

"ZACHARY. Come help your Dad out."

"I have to go Julie. I’ll see you around"

"Thanks for talking. I guess I was lucky to have met you."

"Don’t thank me--thank fate, luck and destiny. Hey that rhymes!" exclaimed Zac

"You’re a weirdo Zac"

"Thanks, all the comments are appreciated. My Dad’s probably having a fit so, I’ll see you later."

And Zac ran off letting his golden tresses fly through the air. That seemed familiar, she thought.
